Sarah Boyd (formerly Blythe) is a PhD student in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at UNC. She hails from Kansas and, despite her current Tarheel status, has been, and will continue to be, a life-long Jayhawker (Rock Chalk!). In her spare time, Sarah enjoys doing book arts and watching television when she gets the chance: Misfits, Downton Abbey, and Castle are her current tv guilty pleasures.

Elizabeth Brooks is an Exercise and Sport Science major concentrating on Sport Administration so she’s not as much interested in the science side of things as the business administration side of things. (on the left)
Edwin Burnett is undecided in his major, but is hoping to increase his reading skills and fulfill his LA credit with this course. When he’s not sharpening his reading skillz, Edwin enjoys being active!
Sophomore Caitlyn Carmean comes to Carolina to study vocal performance. A member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, she holds the ritual chair position and is the assistant music director for the Newman Catholic Center on campus.
Steven Chickos is a Peace, War and Defense major in his third year. He hopes to declare GIS as a minor in the Fall. In leisure hours, he enjoys working out, running and Cross-fit training, and hanging out with my friends.
While Rhiannon “Rhi” Childress came to UNC to study nursing, she found her scholarly interests piqued with psychology. She hopes to go to graduate school to study speech pathology. When she’s not studying, Rhi likes to tackle DIY projects for the home.
Carlos Collazo is a second semester first year student contemplating majoring in Journalism. And he’s off to a good start, presently residing on the sports desk of The Daily Tar Heel. Ideally, he’d like to cover baseball, but is happy to cover any sport and has tentative plans to work in sports radio.
First-year Cierra “CB” Cotten plans to major in Broadcast journalism with a minor in either Creative Writing or English. At heart, CB is a writer though her interest wander far and wide: she plays the guitar and participates in pageants. Someday, she WILL be on television, so look out, world.
Stephanie Crawford is a biology major and anthropology minor from Southeastern North Carolina. She hopes to become a physician. In her spare time, she likes to run, read, and spend time with her friends.
Senior Allan “Poe” Erickson can’t wait to graduate. Originally from Wilmington, NC, Allan currently works part-time for the School of Government and the IT department, keeping him quite busy as he prepares to launch himself into the great wide, degree holding post-graduate world. At that time, he’ll hold a BA in Communication Studies with a minor in Management with hopes of going on to get an MA in Accounting.
Diana Ford is a first-year student at UNC working toward a double major in Biology and German. She loves to read romantic fiction like Pride and Prejudice and other Austen novels. She is a Nerdfighter, tumblr addict, and a huge fan of the Lizzie Bennet Diaries, a modern retelling of the best book ever written.
Peyton George is a sophomore who is currently undecided, but she’s leaning toward majoring in economics and minoring in library science. She is currently the treasurer of Circle K and she enjoys volunteering at the hospital.
Luke Godwin is a first year student who hails from Fayetteville, North Carolina. Although he professes not to read too much, he’ll be reading a lot for this class! He’s currently undecided in his major, but outside of school, he enjoys being active!
Born in Los Angeles, Sally Han became a Tar heel when she moved to High Point, NC at the age of 6. She has a passion for music, which she likely got from her mother, who teaches piano. Sally also plays the piano, but her real musical passion is the cello. Here at Carlina she’s double majoring in American Studies and Global Studies and minoring in History and Hispanic Studies. In other words, Sally has myriad interests. She hopes to go on to grad school and study social work. She also loves roller coasters!
North Carolina native Alexandra Henshaw is a graduating senior with a major in Psychology and minors in Chemistry and Spanish. She’s currently looking forward to going to graduate school for a master’s in genetic counseling. When she’s not studying, she enjoys hanging out in the Arboretum and playing the piano.
Senior Allie Hodges is about to graduate with a major in psychology and a double minor in Women Studies and English. She plans to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology with a special focus on PTSD. Though a self-described “nerd” her interests go far and wide. She likes sewing, reading and, of course, the sciences.
North Carolina native Thomas Mann is a senior majoring in Management and Society and hopes to go into Human Resources and employment logistics when he graduates. He’s also a life-long sports enthusiast: water skiing, wake boarding, scuba diving, sailing, you name it! He also enjoys playing the guitar and has a passion for classic cars.
Ben Martinez is a biology major. Born in California, Ben moved to Colorado when he was 3 years old, where he lived until roughly the age of 7 and his parents again relocated to North Carolina. He enjoys spending time with family and playing soccer (go FC Barcelona!). Although Ben has traveled only a little outside the country, he hopes to visit Europe and South America. In his spare time, Ben volunteers at the UNC Health Care System and has aspirations to become a pediatrician.
Contrary to her nickname (Shi) Shiesha Mcneil is not shy. She’s a sophomore here at Carolina, double majoring in Psychology and Management and Society. She loves spoken word poetry and art. In fact, she IS a spoken word poet.
Evan Mobley is a sophomore majoring in mathematical decision science and hopes to become an actuary after finishing his degree at Carolina. His favorite book is George R.R. Martins’s Game of Thrones. In his spare time, Evan enjoys fishing and playing soccer.
Jonathan Moyer is undecided in his major, but is hoping to French in some way in for is post-graduate work. In his spare time, Jon likes to write and draw. His favorite genres are sci-fi and fantasy!
Although Alexa Owens is majoring in exercise and sports science, she’s interested in pursing advanced training in the public health: medical, dental or perhaps PT school. She keeps busy when she’s not in class, participating on the cheerleading team and keeping up with sorority events. She also loves The Great Gatsby.
Matt Plaus is currently undecided about his major, but he’s currently considering journalism. His favorite movie is Reservoir Dogs and he’s currently reading Cryptonomicon.
Katie Reeder is a freshman from Lincolnton, North Carolina. She is majoring in psychology and is considering an education minor. She enjoys reading, basketball, volleyball, and spending time with her friends.
Burgess Robinson is a junior majoring in physics and studio art. He’s co-starter-upper of Mixed Concrete, works on the TEDxUNC organizing committee and co-chair of UNC Habitat for Humanity club.
Native Ohioan Madeleine “Mad” Scanlon, spends her breaks in Winston Salem, NC. But her real passion is cultural theory and literary criticism. She also speaks Spanish, and, incidentally, you might find her hooping, rollerblading and watching movies friends in her spare time.
Josh Ung is a biology major on the pre-med track here at UNC. He likes sports and spending time with friends in family when he’s not studying biology or reading fiction. He’s also a wrestler and a big fan of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
Aaron Warshauer is a native Chapel Hillite. Although he wants to study internationally, he’s not unhappy about being based in his hometown as it allows for him to play Ultimate Frisbee with Darkside, the UNC club team. He also plays piano and has a bit of a flair for the stage. Currently he’s a political science major, but he enjoys reading historical fiction and westerns. Perhaps he has the making of an English major? We shall see.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Brian Whalen has lived in North Carolina for the last 12 years. Currently a sophomore, Brian hopes to be admitted to the UNC Business school. Outside of class, Brian loves to play basketball and is currently on the JV team here at UNC.
Sophomore Walker Williams is currently a biology major but he intends to change it in the next few months. He loves video games, soccer and is an avid watcher of television.
Walter Yarbrough is majoring in business but has a special passion for duck hunting and politics!
